Melbourn (451 110; with suburb, 500 000), capital of Victoria and the main city to Australia, also one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its buildings of parliament, a town hall, mail, exchequer, a mint, lawful courts, public libraries, picture galleries, theatres, churches, and clubs - all buildings of architectural magnificence and beauty while its parkways, parks and gardens are equally magnificent. Once money flew freely, and the big commercial recklessness prevailed. But though Melbourn has sustained some serious depressions, its present conditions are rich, and its future is assured. It - however, a city loving pleasure, and it is so on this account as because of its big beauty, that it name 'Paris of southern hemisphere.' Anywhere in the world, probably, not internal entertainments - theatre, concerts, etc. - or external cricket of entertainments, football, the jumps etc. more faithfully sponsoring than in Melbourn. Other important places in Victoria - Ballarat (40 000) and Sandhurst (37 000), both miner"s cities, and Geelong (25 000) in local scale noted for its manufacturing 'tweeds'.
